Basketball players Candace Smith and Matthew Morrison are this week’s Holland College Hurricanes athletes of the week. Smith, a first-year Hurricanes guard out of New Minas, N.S., scored 17 points off the bench on Saturday and added 10 on Sunday as Holland College swept the King’s Blue Devils. The fivefoot-eight guard, who played the past two seasons at UPEI, is studying in the heritage retrofit carpentry program. Morrison, in his fifth year of eligibility, scored 13 points Saturday and added nine more Sunday in wins over the Blue Devils. The five-foot11 guard, who is from Charlottetown, is studying in the human resource management program and is in his fourth season with the Hurricanes. Both basketball teams return to the court on Wednesday night when they visit the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville, N.B., at 6 (women) and 8 (men) p.m.
