Chess tournament Sunday at Colonel Gray

-

A scholastic chess tournament is set for Sunday, Jan. 31 at Colonel Gray High School in the cafeteria.

It’s open to all students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

“Everyone plays at least four games. Students are divided into four or six player groups by age and rating,” say organizers.

Prizes for the top three players in each group will be provided, either a medal with ribbon or a chess pin.

The Chess’n Math association rates the games.

Entry fees are $10 per person and $5 for second and subsequent players in the same family.

Registration is 12:15-12:45 p.m. The first round begins at 1 p.m. The tournament is over by 4 p.m. (3 p.m. for younger children). To ensure a start time of 1 p.m., registration will close at 12:45 p.m.

During the tourney, organizers will operate a canteen and sell chess sets as part of their ongoing fundraising.

This is the last monthly tournament before the P.E.I. provincial chess Challenge on Feb. 28.
