P.E.I. wrestlers cap­ture medals

Prince Ed­ward Is­land wrestlers con­tinue their sea­son with some strong per­for­mances re­cently at ma­jor tour­na­ments.

Charl o tt etown’s Trevor Banks of Con­cor­dia showed why he is the No. 1-ranked Cana­dian In­teruni­ver­sity Sport (CIS) wrestler in his 54-kg divi­sion by win­ning both the Brock open at St Cather­ine’s, Ont., and the Western open in Lon­don.

Banks has been in out­stand­ing form this year and won both events hand­ily, adding the ti­tles to his vic­to­ries ear­lier this sea­son at the McMaster in­vi­ta­tional and the York Univer­sity open.

Banks was the 2015 CIS sil­ver medal win­ner.

Sum­mer­side’s Ligrit Sadiku, wrestling for Western at 57kg, won a bronze at the Western open.

Sum­mer­side’s Han­nah Tay­lor also con­tin­ued her fine form by win­ning the 55-kg divi­sion at the Guelph open, her se­cond ma­jor win against CIS-cal­i­bre wrestlers of the year.

Veron­ica Keefe, wrestling for the Mon­treal YMHA, fin­ished in third place in the 75-kg divi­sion.
