McKinnon helps Islanders sweep Chatham
P.E.I. Junior Islanders factor in to victories for senior club
The Charlottetown Gaudet’s Auto Body Islanders finished the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League regular season Saturday with a sweep of the Chatham Ironmen.
Josh McKinnon had a home run, a single, scored two runs and drove in a pair as the Isles won the opener 6-1. Andrew Macdonald had a double while Dylan McKenna and Spencer Montgomery added singles.
Tyson Blue (2-1) recorded the win with two innings of relief. He allowed a run on two hits in two innings of work. Jake Beck allowed two hits in three innings while Dylan Beck gave up one hit in two innings. J.F. Neveu (6-5) took the loss. Junior call-up Colin Arsenault went 4 2/3 innings as the Isles took Game 2 5-1. The lefty allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one. Brody McDonald allowed two hits in 1 1/3 innings while striking out two. Junior call-up Porter Smith allowed a hit in an inning of work for the save.
McKinnon and Macdonald each had two hits to pace Charlottetown while McKenna, Morgan MacLean, Sean Corcoran and Taylor Larkin each chipped in one.
McKinnon had two RBI while Macdonald, Corcoran and junior call-up J.J. Oram each added one. McKenna stole two bases. Jamie Walls took the loss. Charlottetown had already clinched the regular season title. They finished the season 22-10 and will start the Canadian senior baseball championship Thursday at 3 p.m. in Fredericton, N.B., versus Newfoundland and Labrador.
