Bomb squad rushes to Souris

-

An army unit safely got rid of a bomb in Souris Sunday. The RCMP in Souris got the call for help to dispose of the old military shell. The device had been found locally in the Souris area many years ago by a family member of the person contacting police and had been re-located to an outbuilding at a property in Goose River. Utilizing the support services of the Canadian Forces from Gagetown, N.B., the device was photographed, identified and deemed safe to remain at its location until the bomb disposal unit could attend. The Canadian Forces unit came to Goose River quickly and disposed of the device safely. “The RCMP advise that from time to time undetonated military devices may be located or recovered and remind the public that these devices may be extremely volatile and should not be handled or moved,” said a warning issued by the police force Monday. Secure the area and device as best you can without direct contact with the device and immediately contact your local police force, it suggested. Police are then able to get in touch with experts to secure, remove and dispose of these military devices safely.
