Brewers explode late to defeat Chevies

Teams will meet in first round of KCBL playoffs

The Northside Gill Constructi­on Brewers beat the Morell Chevies and East Royalty Expos on Sunday night to clinch third place in the Kings County Baseball League.

They will meet the Chevies in the first round of the playoffs.

The Brewers trailed the Chevies 7-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, before scoring eight runs to win 9-7.

Mitchell Ryan was the winning pitcher and went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Brewers. Will Jadis had three hits and Garret Vandiepen contribute­d two, with both collecting a double.

Tyson Blue pitched the seventh frame for the save.

Scott Harper went 4-for-4 to lead the Chevies. Troy Coffin pitched the loss with relief from Andrew Arsenault.

The Brewers scored early and often in the second game, routing the Expos 14-2 in a game called after five innings.

Jadis, Vandiepen, Darcy Nicholson and Sam Walsh all had two hits to lead the Brewers. Walsh tossed a two-hitter over four innings to earn the pitching win. Blue pitched the final inning.

Justin Bradley, Kris McGuirk and Duff Macdonald all went 1-for-2 for the Expos. Mike MacMillan suffered the loss with relief from MacDonald and McGuirk.
