Farm Day in the City set for Sunday
Island’s largest outdoor market space will take place in Charlottetown’s downtown
The ninth annual Farm Day in the City will take over the streets of downtown Charlottetown on Sunday.
Queen Street, as well as Victoria Row and the Confederation Centre of the Arts plaza, will be transformed into the Island’s largest outdoor market space, with more than 150 vendors, contributors and entertainment booths.
The free open-air market celebrates the end of the monthlong Fall Flavours Festival and is organized by Discover Charlottetown.
“The event, which has experienced substantial growth year over year, brings farmers, producers, exhibitors, crafters and artisans from across P.E.I. together to celebrate and promote the bounty of P.E.I.’s rural and urban community,” said Discover Charlottetown executive director Heidi Zinn. “It’s an event that really reinforces how lucky we are to live in such a special place and be surrounded by so many exceptional products. The P.E.I. Potato Farmers are this year’s title sponsor.
“Come enjoy a baked potato or some Island French fries, let the kids play in our kids zone and talk to our own potato farmers about what we do,” said chairman and potato grower Alex Docherty.
Farm Day in the City attracted Farm Day in the City closes down vehicle traffic on lower Queen Street, from Grafton to King Street, for daylong festivities. Motorists are advised that on Sunday, from 4 a.m. until 9 p.m., the following streets will be closed to all traffic, with no parking permitted on either side of these streets: more than 12,000 attendees last year. With free admission, many kid-friendly activities, live music, food vendors and lots of shopping options, residents and visitors spend a few hours at the market, taking in the atmosphere and catching up with old friends.
