Playoffs begin

Number of games played Monday in PEISAA senior high school basketball

It was a busy start to the P.E.I. School Athletic Associatio­n senior basketball playoffs on Monday.

A number of quarter-final games at the AAA, AA and A levels were played throughout the province.

Following are the results:

Senior A Boys Three Oaks Axemen 75, Kensington Torchmen 67

At Kensington Intermedia­te-Senior High School, Matt Enman’s strong three-point shooting and ability to drive to the basket led the Axemen to the road victory. Enman had 27 points, followed by Isaac Compton with 11 and Camren Gavin had 10 points.

Top scorers for KISH were Bailey Clark (32), AJ Cahill (10) and Thomas Haslam (9).

Colonel Gray Team Two 74, Bluefield Team Two 35

At Colonel Gray, the host Colonels dominated throughout, and built a 32-14 lead at halftime.

Keir Warren (24) and Patrick Heffernan (20) were the top point-getters for the Colonels.

Connor Crozier had 15 for the Bobcats.

Senior A Girls Kinkora Blazers 44, Colonel Gray Team Two 34

At Kinkora Regional High School, Alexis Mulligan poured in a game-high 25 points to lead the Blazers, who held a slim 24-22 lead at halftime. Rachel Green added 11 while Emma Collicutt (11) and Sandra Yusuf (10) were Gray’s top scorers.

Three Oaks Team Two 34, Morell Marlins 25

At Three Oaks Senior High School, the host Axewomen took a 14-12 lead into halftime as the defences dominated the first two quarters.

Megan Mann, who led the Axewomen with 10 points, delivered some timely secondhalf shots. Melanie Rodgers added six points.

Lindsay Sanderson (11) and Hailey Laybolt (7) were Morell’s top scorers.

Senior AA Boys Montague Vikings 81, Morell Marlins 80

The Vikings overcame a 37-28 halftime deficit in a tightly-contested matchup that was decided by Darian Rice’s game-winning shot with 12 seconds remaining.

Morell led the entire game until halfway through the fourth quarter, when the Vikings finally broke through on big plays from Dyllin Bernard and Ross Power, who scored 36 and 22 points, respective­ly. Rice finished with 11 points.

Sam Stewart (25), Thomas Craig (19) and Daniel Cousins (11) were the leading scorers for Morell.

Bluefield Team One 88, Francois Buote 40

The Cheverie brothers paced Bluefield past the François Buote Jaguars. Seth Cheverie contribute­d 19 points to lead the Bobcats’ scoring while older brother Isaac netted 14.

Nathan Arsenault led the Jaguars with 13 points, Malcolm Gillman added 12 points.

The Bobcats led 52-18 at halftime.

Senior AA Girls Grace Christian Knights 56, Kensington Torchettes 30

The visiting Knights were in control all game en route to the 26-point victory.

Montague Vikings 36, Charlottet­own Rural Team Two 31

Montague, led by strong defensive play, went on a 12-4 run to take a 21-13 lead into halftime. The Raiders took a page out of Montague’s book, and tied the game at the threeminut­e mark of the fourth quarter.

Both teams hit key shots down the stretch, but Montague was stronger in the last two minutes.

Chloe Enoit led the Raiders with seven points while Grace Boyce had six points for the Vikings.
