Hospitals in the West Prince region will receive the proceeds of the P.E.I. Women’s Institute’s 17th annual Spring is in the Air gala dinner.

It will be the first time since 2006 that the West Prince hospitals — Community Hospital in O’Leary and Western Hospital in Alberton — will receive the gala proceeds.

Jacquie Laird, the group’s provincial president, attended the Institute’s Area 2 District Convention in O’Leary recently to encourage the members of the Knutsford and West Devon WIs to help with promotion and ticket sales for the annual fundraiser.

The hospital foundations and auxiliaries are also helping with promotion.

The gala will be held at Red Shores’ Top of the Park Restaurant in Charlottetown on Friday, April 7.

A reception starts at 6 p.m., and the dinner is at 6:30 p.m.

More than 200 people attended last year’s event and Laird is optimistic of a similar turnout this year.

“It’s a lovely dinner,” said the provincial president.

There will also be a live auction and a silent auction, and businesses are being canvassed for auction items.

A “hummingbird” cake at last year’s auction generated a bidding frenzy and raised $285 for the cause, Laird revealed.

Tickets are being sold across the province.

In West Prince they are available from WI members and from representatives of the hospitals’ foundations and auxiliaries.

For ticket available in other areas, contact the provincial WI office in Charlottetown.

The deadline for ticket sales and auction items for this year’s gala is March 24.
