The funeral for John Leslie Clement was held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from Belvedere Funeral Home to Park Royal United Church where the service was conducted by Rev. Kevin MacKenzie and assisted by Rev. David Campbell. The organist was Valerie MacKenzie. The Prelude to the service began with The Atlantic String Machine beautifull­y performing some of his favourite string music culminatin­g with Karem Simon, soloist. During the service Sylvia Mutch sang Laudate Dominium accompanie­d by Frances McBurnie and ASM. The postlude was Amazing Grace with Sylvia Mutch singing the opening verse and continued by the choir, strings and organ. Just before the Benedictio­n over 100 Alumni, many musical friends and Jen joined the current Singing Strings and ASM for an incredibly moving rendition of Ashoken Farewell. Words of remembranc­e were shared by Ian Mann, Wendy Evers Forrester, Sean Clement and Austin Clement. During the service, Daphne Davey led a PEI Quaker Meeting which was followed by a period of silent meditation. Honorary pallbearer­s were David Dodds and Pope Carragher. Pallbearer­s were Peter Mutch, Gregory Weeks, Thomas Lewis, Tyler Weeks, Matthew Wicks and Noah O’Connor. Flower bearers were Haven Chandler, Emma Lewis, Jillian Petrie, Madison O’Connor and Jennifer Petrie. Interment will take place later in Sherwood Cemetery. Those attending the funeral service included representa­tives from Holland College. Following the funeral service, everyone was invited to join the family for a reception in the church gym. The family was overwhelme­d by the generosity and love shown by musicians, alumni, and many friends who came to honour John. A special thanks to the Park Royal UCW for providing the lovely food, and also the Park Royal clergy and staff, and Belvedere Funeral Home for their incredible support.
