Drunk driving can put livelihood in jeopardy: judge

-

GEORGETOWN – Chief Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orr sentenced Kent Owen Beaton to three days in jail Thursday for failing a breathalyzer on March 25 in Montague.

The jail time is not the greatest punishment for Beaton. Losing his ability to drive is. Beaton, 24, of New Perth, a red seal electrician, has been forced to shut down his business because he cannot drive. He is prohibited from driving for one year.

“It’s always a mystery to me how someone who needs their licence to work puts it in jeopardy by drinking and driving,’’ said Orr.

Beaton was pulled over by police around 3:40 p.m. after being spotted driving a dune buggy erratically in Montague. Orr also fined Beaton $1,000 and imposed a $300 victims of crime assessment.
