Man sentenced for contraband tobacco

SUMMERSIDE – James Joseph Gallant, 63, of Summerside, has pleaded guilty to selling unlicensed cigarettes, of possessing more than 1,000 grams of tobacco at one time, unlawfully possessing a controlled substance, oxycodone and possession of stolen property – a collection of coins.

The charges are from Oct. 30 and Dec. 20, 2016, in Summerside.

Gallant was fined $5,350, ordered to serve 10 days in jail, which he received permission to do intermitte­ntly, and one year of probation. He must also pay a $250 victim surcharge.
