CORNEY, Orvin Ernest

-

After living a long life, loved by family and friends, Orvin Ernest Corney, passed from this earth, on Saturday morning, April 29, 2017 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown. Born on April 14, 1928, in Appin Rd. to Ernest and Ada (Cann) Corney, Orvin went to help on his grandparent’s farm ,in his beloved Green Bay at the age of 11, and under their guidance, he grew up from a boy to a young man with the engrained character traits of loyalty, a hard work ethic, a love of reading and music and his wonderful stories that we , his family, are left with to be treasured forever. Orvin spent his career as a carpenter and building contractor, and this island is dotted with houses, barns and restaurants built with his talent and skill, and all remain today, looking as strong and straight as the day he completed them. After a hard, long days work, Dad would remove his work clothes, change into clean street clothes and play one of his many beautiful violins for hours on end, often until very late at night, then carefully and lovingly tuck it away for another time, and then rest before the next day’s hard work. On June 27, 1953, Orvin married Wanda (Buchanan) who survives him and grieves his loss after 64 years together; as well as his three loving daughters, Glenna Smith (Sid), Ferne MacNevin (Ian), and Beth Corney Gauthier (Lee). “Bompy” was the proud grandfather of Vanessa Snider ( Eric ) , Jessica Lord ( Justin ), Alyssa Allain ( Steve ), Amy MacNevin (predeceased in 1989), Brodie MacNevin ( Vanessa Stanley ), Shelby MacNevin ( Michael Cudmore ), and Zachary Gauthier. Bompy was very pleased when he became a great grandfather to Charlotte, James, Brenya, Amelia and Elijah. Orvin was second eldest of nine boys; Leon (predeceased), George (predeceased), Hessell (predeceased), Hollis, Vernon, Walter, Norris and an infant boy. Also survived by cousin, friend and buddy, Hartley Corney, as well as sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews in the Corney and Buchanan families. Visitation will be held at the Hennessy Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home, Longworth Avenue, Charlottetown on Tuesday, May 2nd from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 3rd at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial and committal service will follow immediately in the family plot at Burnside Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Clyde River, Prince Edward Island. Family Flowers only. Donations to the Children’s Wish Foundation, PEI Chapter would be greatly appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.islandowned.ca.
