Laughs are coming
Mike MacDonald to perform at Kings Playhouse
The Kings Playhouse and Georgetown Minor Hockey are hosting a night of laughs featuring Canadian comedy legend Mike MacDonald.
The event takes place Saturday at 7:30 p.m., in the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown.
Considered one of the top funny men in all of Canada, MacDonald understands the power of laughter, a news release states.
In addition to his live performances all over North America, MacDonald has appeared on numerous TV shows on HBO, Showtime, The Comedy Network as well as CBC’s “Just For Laughs”.
“Mike has always lived his life as an open book never shying away from his own personal battles. He has been and continues to be a strong advocate in the fight against the stigma of Mental Health issues and drug addiction,” a news release states.
In 2011, MacDonald was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, which progressed to the point where his liver and his kidneys shut down. He was put on the waiting list for a liver transplant and on March 17, 2013 he underwent a successful seven-hour operation.
“Since 2014, he has returned full-time to performing and has wowed audiences with his recovery story, which is not only brutally honest but gut-wrenchingly funny and insightful,” the release states.
The evening will include an opening act by special guest Marc Sauve, a 50/50 draw and cake auction to benefit the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association, an organization that works to support the efforts for youth sport in the area.
