Basketball P.E.I., Morrisons to offer two summer camps
Basketball P.E.I. is partnering with Basketball 101 Development School to offer two weeks of camps during the summer.
They will provide an opportunity for athletes to improve their fundamentals while raising funds for Basketball P.E.I. Basketball 101 Development Schools is co-owned by George and Scott Morrison.
“Scott and I wanted to continue to offer a basketball camp that has been recognized as an excellent week of development for all players who attend,” George said. “However, we also wanted to see the profits go towards furthering the development of the game in this province. That is why we chose to partner with Basketball P.E.I.”
George coached at the university and college level for 30 years while Scott has been the head coach of the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtic’s NBA D-League affiliate, for the past three seasons.
Basketball P.E.I. president Peter Lawlor said it is grateful the Morrisons approached the organization, which aims to grow the game and develop athletes.
“Basketball 101 targets both of these goals,” he said. “It is one of the premier development opportunities for our athletes during the off-season, plus it will provide us with the funds we need to run an effective high-performance program for our elite athletes.”
Guest coaches include Dale Farish, a longtime coach on P.E.I.; Darrell Glenn, the newly named UPEI men’s basketball coach; and Lonnie States, who has coached in Nova Scotia and P.E.I. for many years. Additional coaches will be announced later.
“These camps offer athletes the opportunity to take the time to focus on the fundamental skills needed to become elite basketball players,” added Trent Whitty, Basketball P.E.I.’s executive director.
