Two students from Morell are the provincial winners in a high school video contest highlighting the importance of safety on the job.

Grade 11 Morell Regional High students Ben MacMillan and Jacob MacDonald’s video “Know Your Limits” was selected as the winner of the Workers Compensation Board contest.

Their video delivers a powerful message, following a fatigued young farm worker through his daily tasks.

MacMillan and MacDonald will share a $1,000 cash prize and receive $1,000 for their school. Their video will also be submitted to the national youth video contest where there are more cash prizes to be won.

Islanders can cast their vote to make the Morell students’ video the fan favourite in the national contest at ccohs.ca/youngworkers/video_contest.html.

Voting will be open between April 29 and May 5, and the winner will be announced online the week of May 8. The winner receives an additional $1,000 cash prize.

The most comprehensive business community event held in Summerside for years is ready to open its doors today in Credit Union Place.

Choose Summerside is a family-friendly celebration of the business community that features numerous organizations and lots of entertainment.

Presented by the not-forprofit agencies of Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Summerside and Explore Summerside, Choose Summerside is all about why businesses and residents live or shop or find recreation in Summerside.

In addition to many wellknown organizations such as Corporate Event Sponsor Township Chevrolet and Activity Sponsor Century 21, there are a host of emerging businesses such as Go Girl Fashions and East Coast Furnishings.

Choose Summerside will also provide entertainment and learning seminars throughout the day, with performances by Summerside Choir and featured children’s entertainer, Mike Pendergast.

Dan Kutcher, Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce President asserts, “Choose Summerside is about our great Summerside stories and how we live here in Summerside. We are extremely pleased to present this business community event for the whole community; we have taken a business show and made it a family destination.”

Kutcher points out that being a family-friendly business event means catering to families.

“We have the longest bouncy castle on the Island, as well as exhibitors who have familyfocused services. Our goal is to show that Summerside is truly a family-friendly community and our growth depends upon families.”

He said that the event is also senior-friendly and fully accessible, with representation from the Summerside Age Friendly Committee.

“Choose Summerside is an excellent way to introduce residents and visitors alike to the many products and services available in the community,” Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald said. “Summerside is a smaller city but it can achieve big things. This event will help instill a greater sense of confidence and community in the Summerside region.”
