Musicians getting ready

Kings County Music Festival May 8-12

Many young musicians are preparing for the Kings County Music Festival May 8-12 at Hillcrest United Church in Montague.

The week will conclude with the awards concert on Saturday, May 13, 7 p.m. Admission for the concert is $5 per adult. All sessions at Hillcrest United Church in Montague.

Programs for the festival are at The Source in Montague and Long and McQuade in Charlottet­own for $3. Daily admission is $2 ($1 for students/ seniors). Membership in the KCMF helps support this organizati­on and allows you admission to all sessions of the Festival. (single - $7, family - $10, groups or organizati­ons - $20).

This year the festival welcomes adjudicato­rs Monique Richard, David Rogosin and

Dale Sorensen.

Richard is department head in the Faculty of Music at the Université de Moncton as well as a professor of music education. Trained as a pianist and music educator and coming from a long choral tradition, she went on to complete a master`s degree in choral conducting at the University of Illinois in 1994 and obtained her doctorate in education at the Université de Moncton in 2013. Her enthusiasm and vitality for music has

led her to be invited to adjudicate several music festivals, and to give choral workshops throughout Canada and in France.

Rogosin, a professor at Mount Allison University, has performed across Canada, in the American mid-west, the Caribbean and France. Praised for the brilliance, clarity and passion of his performanc­es, he is highly regarded as a performer, adjudicato­r and clinician. Aside from solo recitals, Rogosin is a frequent collaborat­or and chamber player and has released two solo recordings.

Sorensen is a passionate performer and promoter of Canadian music, who has premiered more than 20 solo trombone works and dozens of chamber works, and recorded an all-Canadian CD of music for trombone.

As an orchestral musician, Sorensen performs regularly with Symphony Nova Scotia and the Charlottet­own Festival Orchestra and has played throughout southweste­rn Ontario and the Maritimes. A dedicated educator, he teaches privately, frequently adjudicate­s at various music festivals,
