- BY MAUREEN COULTER

As soon as the clock struck two, children were running down the hallway at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel screaming in excitement as they raced towards an unforgettable afternoon with some of their favourite princess and superhero characters.

The children were given tiaras, wands and superhero facemasks as they entered the ballroom area that had been transformed into a mesmerizing magical wonderland.

Dozens of superheroes, princesses and princes mingled with the children, striking up lively conversations filled with bursts of laughter and moments of reverence as they gazed into the faces of beloved characters.

This was the first ever Princess and Superhero Party, hosted by the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada - Prince Edward Island Chapter and it was deemed a great success.

“It’s spectacular,” said Chris Cudmore, who took his six -year-old daughter Tayah.

“It’s way more than I thought it was going to be.”

Tayah said she was having a great time, loving the displays of balloons and meeting her favourite princess Ariel.

The afternoon consisted of various activities including a royally rockin’ dance party, princess parlour, a superhero training facility complete with a bouncy castle and a regal recital hall with live entertainment.

There were also stations for face painting, balloon animal and colouring to make for a fun filled afternoon.

Nick Myers, 10, of Hunter River was dressed up as Thor and was working on getting his superhero certificate with the justice league.

Myers said he was excited to take part in the day and was enjoying the bouncy castle and shooting the hail-fire Nerf gun at the Stormtrooper.

Delphine Corney, 8, of Charlottetown was hitting every station, having just had her face and nails painted.

“I just like all the activities here,” said Delphine. “I’m just really excited to do everything.”

Beth Corney Gauthier, provincial director of the Children’s Wish - Prince Edward Island Chapter, said they are excited to see this event come to fruition since it is something that has been in the works for the past four years.

“This is our first Princess and Superhero Party, but we are certainly hoping that it’s going to be an annual event.”

Gauthier said all of the money raised at this event is going toward granting wishes to Island children who’ve been diagnosed with a high-risk life-threatening illness.

Gauthier said they are currently working on 19 wishes on P.E.I.

Gauthier said she hopes those in attendance leave feeling like this was a “mini wish” for them.
