Literary event

Open mic is at Confederat­ion Centre Public Library Thursday, May 11, 7 p.m. Join in and share a love of poetry and prose by reading before a live audience. Cards/Cribbage/ Crokinole

Stratford weekly Cribbage, sponsored by the Stratford Lions Club, is at the Cotton Centre, 57 Bunbury Rd., Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. Prizes are $100, $60 and $40. Admission: $6 per person; all are welcome. Proceeds go to Lions’ community projects. Call 902-5692409.

Fundraiser­s

Bingo night is May 12, 7 p.m. at St. Joachim’s Hall, Vernon River. Bring your own dabbers. There will be a canteen and prizes to be won. Proceeds will go to Canadian Cancer Society.

Capture the Queen of Hearts is at the Fort Augustus Rec Centre, Fridays, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are sold until 8 p.m. for a chance to win a growing jackpot. Chase the Ace is at the New London Community Complex, Fridays, with an estimated pot this week of $69300 and only 13 cards left. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the draw is at 9 p.m.

The annual St. Mark’s Compost Sale is Saturday, May 13, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. Mark’s Presbyteri­an Church, 7 Tamarac Ave., Charlottet­own. Compost will be available in the church parking lot either by the bag or in bulk. Proceeds from this sale will be used to support the various missions at St. Mark’s.

A yard and bake sale is at St. Columba Presbyteri­an Church, 14173 St. Peters Rd., May 13, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Enjoy delicious baked goods and find interestin­g and useful treasures. Money raised will support the church. A giant yard sale is being planned by and in support of KARSI - the Kensington Area Refugee Sponsorshi­p Initiative on May 13, 9 a.m., on the grounds of Gallery 18, 10686 Route 6, New London. The sale is being held rain or shine.

Geneva Villa’s annual Mother’s Day tea and seniors fundraiser is Saturday, May 13, 1:30-3 p.m. There will be tea and sweets, a silent auction, a bake sale and craft sale. Funds raised go toward seniors’ outings which include a tour on the Harbour Hippo, visits to the Butterfly House, Cows Creamery, Jewell’s Country Gardens and Avonlea Village. St. James Presbyteri­an Church (“The Kirk”) is holding its 14th annual Mother’s Day Lobster Plate Take-out Fundraiser, one of its most important annual fundraiser­s. Money raised supports various projects at the church, which is located at 35 Fitzroy St., Charlottet­own. Tickets are $20 (a lobster in the shell, cracked, potato salad, coleslaw, a roll and carrot cake). The spring clean-up at Murchison Place Park in Clyde River is Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m. (rain date, May 19). The park is located at the corner of the Trans-Canada Highway and the Clyde River Road.
