HAMMILL, Edwin

The funeral for Edwin Hammill of Summerset Manor, Summerside and formerly of Lower Freetown, was held on Friday, May 12, 2017 where funeral mass was celebrated at St. Malachy’s Church, Kinkora by Rev. Doug MacDonald who proclaimed the gospel. Concelebrants were Rev. Keith Kennific and Rev Bob Coady. The homily was delivered by Rev. Kennific. The pall was placed on the casket by daughters, Patricia McKenna and Karen Ellis. Cross bearer was Elmer Smith. Altar servers were Karen McKenna and Neville Lawless. The first scripture reading was proclaimed by grandson, Jonathan Hammill and the second scripture reading by daughter, Patricia McKenna. Prayers of the faithful were led by grand daughters, Joanne Ellis and Jodie McKenna. The combined parish choirs, with guitarists Ramona Roberts and Gary Arsenault sang the processional hymn, Be Not Afraid; responsorial psalm, The Good Shepherd; offertory hymn, Here I am Lord rendered by Fran MacDougall; communion hymn, Peace is Flowing Like a River; the post communion hymn, “Hallelujah” was rendered by Ramona Roberts and Gary Arsenault; Song of Farewell, Song of The Angels and recessional hymn, How Great Thou Art. Lay communion distributors were Paula Smith and Bernard McKenna. Pall bearers were sons, Michael Hammill, Larry Hammill and Peter Hammill, as well as, sonsin-law George McKenna and Merle Ellis and family friend, Don Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were Betty & Lloyd Peterson, Sidney & Kirk Drummond, Lowell & Louise Drummond, Ronnie & Chris Drummond, Des & Marlene McIver, Elmer & Paula Smith, Clem Gallant, Bernard & Marie McKenna, Gerald & Marion Stordy, Fran & Mel McDougall and Bernadine & Malcom Carter. Flower bearers were grandchildren, Brodie McKenna, Jessica Hammill, Megan Ellis, Spencer Ellis, Jill McKenna, Zachery Hammill and Kaiden Corney. The funeral bulletins were distributed by Victoria Corney, Kennedy Singh, Josh Hammill and Noah Hammill. Attending the funeral liturgy were members of the Thursday afternoon Prayer Group. Interment was in the parish cemetery with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora.
