Great talent for concert
Judy MacLean hosts the QEH fundraiser
The 2017 Spring Stars Concert for the QEH, hosted by Judy MacLean will be held at the Jack Blanchard Centre in Charlottetown beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
It will feature a lineup of talent including recording artist Kevin Beanland, who hails from Flat Bay, N.L., along with wellknown fellow entertainer Joe Hynes of Montague, who performs across P.E.I. with various groups and is formerly of Coduroy Valley, N.L.
Beanland is a multi-talented recording artist with more than 20 CDs to his credit. He is of Irish and French roots and plays tunes with lots of jigs, reels and ditties he learned from his grandfather and other family members. He is an accomplished guitarist plus adds eight other instruments to his repertoire, including fiddle, mandolin and accordion. Country and western music is also a favourite choice of Beanland when performing at various venues.
His mother lived in Chepstow, P.E.I., in her early years before marrying and moving to Newfoundland, thus the Island connection. He was dubbed Air Canada’s “Flying Fiddler” when playing onboard during flights which delighted the crew and passengers early in his career.
Several popular local entertainers will be part of the concert with Bear River’s fiddler/ stepdancer Vanessa Bernard. A longtime member of the Judy MacLean Dancers, she has won many area step-dancing championships and will be a featured performer for the upcoming QEH/Eastlink Telethon slated for May 27-28. She will join her parents, Jackie Bernard (guitar) and Sheila Bernard, who love to sing traditional and old time songs.
Also performing is 11-yearold vocalist/ukulele player Emma Richards who is well on her way to singing career. She won 2016 P.E.I. Has Talent competition. In addition, Emmett DeCoursey will sing and play some original fun songs.
The evening includes 50/50, special draws, Vesey’s Seeds gift certificate plus refreshments. Tickets are at the door beginning at 5 p.m. Call 902-566-5545 for information.
