Sunday program features lots of close finishes

- Complied by Oyster Bed Speedway’s Jeremy MacDonald.

Luckily for the loyal fans who braved the cold air at Oyster Bed Speedway on Sunday, the track was on fire.

With 16 different winners on the day through 21 races, almost every race came down to the final corner before being decided.

In a smaller but highly competitive Late Model field, Matt Palmer and Mark Leclair went head-to-head in all three races.

With a healthy rivalry between the two evident, Round 1 went to Leclair with a heat win while Palmer was second.

In the next race, the two found themselves at the front side-by-side before contact sent the two spinning. Troy Burke would be the eventual winner.

In the feature, the former division champion would have the final laugh as Palmer piloted his Impala to the win.

After missing the 2016 racing season, Street Stock driver Brandon Snow stormed back to Victory Lane, opening his day with a heat win before capping it off with the feature win.

Jeff McInnis was strong on the day recording two wins.

Mini-stock driver Jeff Richard captured a rare triple, and Jordan Leclair scored a heat win to give him three total wins on the season.

Five different drivers took home checkered flags in the Outlaw Division.

Cody Byrne and Shaun Morrison battled in the Super Series feature, with Byrne outlasting Morrison for the win. Ryan Myers took home his first career Outlaw win.

For the first of five race dates, the P.E.I. Super Mini Cup series kicked off its inaugural race with nine cars.

The new local division to hit the track had Matt Watson hitting the record books, winning the first-ever heat race and the first feature win.
