Former P.E.I. laureate guest at open mic event

-

Dianne Hicks Morrow will read at the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild Open Mic on Thursday, June 8, 7 p.m., at Receiver Coffee Co., 128 Richmond St., in Charlottetown.

Hicks Morrow hosted these evenings while P.E.I. poet laureate and is delighted to be a featured reader now. Her award-winning poetry appears in two collections published by Acorn Press Canada: “Long Reach Home” and “What Really Happened Is This: A Poetry Memoir”. The latter won the 2012 P.E.I. Book Award for poetry.

Her non-fiction books are “Kindred Spirits: Relationships That Spark the Soul” and “Fixing Up the Farmhouse: Forty Years of Living, Loving, and Lamenting”, both published by Acorn Press.

Hicks Morrow teaches two writing courses at the Seniors College of P.E.I.: writing from life and anyone can write a poem. She has enjoyed giving readings and workshops across Canada, Mexico and Australia. A past president of the P.E.I. Writers’ Guild, in 2008 she received the Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Literary Arts on P.E.I.

She says she is “looking forward to reading new poems at the Receiver Cafe, many inspired by the fishing village on the Pacific coast of Mexico where we go now to escape winter.”

All are welcome to this free event. The first 10 writers to sign up may read from their work – poetry or prose – for three to five minutes. Following a short break to enjoy some of The Receiver’s creations, Hicks Morrow will read.

The series will take a break through July and August and resume in September.
