P.E.I. Sports Hall getting ready for the 2017 class

-

The deadline for submitting nominations for this year’s induction into the P.E.I. Sports Hall of Fame has been extended to Friday, July 14.

The hall, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2018, will induct four deserving Island sporting personalities at its annual inductions later this year. Currently there are more than 175 members and teams, dating back as far as the late 19th century, inducted into the hall.

“The P.E.I. Sports Hall of Fame continues to be one of the pinnacles of a sporting career,” said hall chairman and member Paul H. Schurman. “It celebrates the good and the great of Island sporting history, keeping alive forever the stories of the wonderful sports men and women that this Island has produced.”

The nomination criteria states the potential member must have born on P.E.I., or have lived here during peak years of their athletic career.

Nominees must also be retired for a five-year period, or be considered to be five years past their days of sporting excellence.

In addition to athletes, the hall inducts builders who made significant contributions in growing their sport, and teams, who have brought success to the Island with excellence in competition.

Officials and coaches are considered under the builder category.

Details on how to nominate are available online at www. peisportshalloffame.ca, or by contacting Nick Murray at 902393-5474, or njmurray100@gmail.com.

Completed nominee packages should be mailed to: PEI Sports Hall of Fame, 40 Enman Crescent, Charlottetown, PE, C1E 1E6.
