The largely attended funeral for Richard Gillan, beloved husband of Brenda Hoff, of Alberta, was held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Seven Mile Bay. The pastor for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Doug MacDonald. The celebrant was Reverend John Lacey, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by Chester Gillan. The second reading from II Corinthian­s, was addressed by Robert Gillan. The prayers of the faithful were led by Ernie MacAulay. The cross bearer was Jenny Jessome. The altar servers were Earl Smith and Debbie Bernard. Mary Hagen and Leonard McGuigan assisted Father Lacey as eucharisti­c ministers. The music was led by music leaders, Doug Clorey and Gary Arsenault. The hymns were: Entrance, “Wind in the Willows”; Psalm, “The Lord Is My Shepherd” led by cantor, Ramona Roberts; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Melchizede­k Alleluia”; Presentati­on of Gifts, “Come As You Are”; Communion, “For Those Tears I Died”; Commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and Recessiona­l, “Go To Your God”. The meditation song “Go Rest High On That Mountain” was sung by the choir. The bearers of honour were wife, Brenda Hoff; and children, James Gillan and Jessica Gillan. Among those in attendance were representa­tives of the Secular Franciscan Fraternity, Retired Lab Technician­s and Right to Life Associatio­n. Interment took place in the Church Cemetery where Reverend Lacey conducted the committal and “The Lord’s Prayer” was sung by Ramona Roberts and Nicole Arsenault accompanie­d by Gary Arsenault on guitar. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow, P.E.I.
