This weekend will show if dreams can come true for owners all across Atlantic Canada.

A total of 33 three-year-old pacers have declared into the Maritime Breeder’s eliminations set for Saturday evening at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park, as the sophomores look for a spot in the season’s first championship final.

The three-year-old pacing fillies only drew two divisions as the Marc Campbell brigade of Elektra Express, Elm Grove Ladyluck and Filly Forty Seven currently lead the division but look to have a real contender emerging from the shadows. Earl Watts-trainee Bonzai Beach was a winner Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Sires Stakes action at Truro Raceway with Clare MacDonald driving in the 1:57.4 victory for owners Danny Ross of Belfast and Boyd MacDonald Produce of Crapaud. She draws in with a pair of horses from the Campbell stable in Saturday’s Race 3 elimination with the horseman electing to drive Filly Forty Seven from Post 2 and have Gilles Barrieau pick up the catch drive on Elm Grove Ladyluck from Post 5.

Elektra Express headlines the Race 7 division for Campbell and owner Danica Ellis of Nova Scotia. The three-year-old daughter of Western Paradise was a winner Sunday in her $7,600 sires stakes division in 1:56.2, tying the three-year-old pacing filly track record held by JK Beauty (1990) and Lovineveryminute (2014).

The top four from each filly elimination will make next week’s final.

The three-year-old pacing colts appear to be a more unsettled group with three eliminations with the top two making the eight-horse final, along

with the fastest two third-place finishers.

Complete Player (Mark Bradley) and Tobinator (Corey MacPherson) battle in the first three-year-old pacing colt elimination in Race 5 while Carters Caper (Clare MacDonald), Cowboys Dont Cry (MacPherson) and Ryans All Star (Campbell) are among the entries in the Race 10 elimination. The final elimination in Race 12 will have all eyes fixed on it, as Island Energetic and trainer-driver Campbell rides a five-race win streak into Post 2, with Jackie Matheson-trainee Ashes To Ashes (Barrieau) leaving from Post 5, fresh off a 1:55.2 victory in overnight action Saturday in Charlottetown. Then throw in last year’s Maritime Breeder’s champion Nameisonthehalter (MacPherson) from Post 3 and JJ Tanner (Walter Cheverie), who has shown he has the speed to compete with the top colts if he minds his manners, and it is sure to be a good show.

The Saturday program also features the return of Adkins Hanover (MacPherson) and Mr Irresistible’s (Jason Hughes) rivalry in the $2,400 preferred pace. Mach It Big has returned to the East Coast and will compete from Post 5 in the sixhorse field with Campbell in the bike for new trainer Brian Andrew and owners Rachel Andrew and Travis Cullen of Ontario.
