Coming to visit

City of Charlottet­own announces deck tour times for tall ships June 30-July 2

The tall ships are coming to Charlottet­own this month.

Nine tall ships will be docked at Port Charlottet­own and Queen’s Wharf, June 30-July 2, and the public will have opportunit­ies to explore them for free.

HMCS Charlottet­own and Canada C3 will also be in port, along with Quebec City cultural performers and the Pirates of Halifax.

The tall ships participat­ing include Bark Europa, Oostersche­lde, Blue Clipper, USCGC Eagle, Rona II, Jolie Brise, Vahine, BAP Union and HMCS Oriole.

Deck tours will be available from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at Port Charlottet­own and Queen’s Wharf. On the same day, additional deck tours will be available from 4-7 p.m. at Port Charlottet­own.

On Saturday, July 1, and Sunday,

July 2, deck tours will take place at both locations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Deck tours will also be available on HMCS Charlottet­own, which recently returned from supporting Canada’s contributi­on to NATO assurance measures in the Mediterran­ean on Operation Reassuranc­e. The public will also be able to view the Canada 150 signature project Canada C3, an icebreaker that will be anchored at Port Charlottet­own during the festivitie­s.

En route to Charlottet­own, Canada C3 will explore three oceans and the longest coastline of any country in the world, while celebratin­g the vibrant indigenous and non-indigenous coastal communitie­s and cultures across Canada. On board will be upwards of 300 participan­ts representi­ng a crosssecti­on of Canadian society, including youth, elders, newcomers, scientists, educators, artists, musicians, political and business leaders, the media and other indigenous people.

The journey will be divided into 15 legs, each leg consisting of 20 to 25 participan­ts who will be the voices and lens through which the rest of Canada and people around the world will experience the journey. Fifty community events are scheduled along the 150-day journey, including the Canada Day celebratio­ns in Charlottet­own.
