The tall ships are coming to Charlottetown this month.
Nine tall ships will be docked at Port Charlottetown and Queen’s Wharf, June 30-July 2, and the public will have opportunities to explore them for free.
HMCS Charlottetown and Canada C3 will also be in port, along with Quebec City cultural performers and the Pirates of Halifax.
The tall ships participating include Bark Europa, Oosterschelde, Blue Clipper, USCGC Eagle, Rona II, Jolie Brise, Vahine, BAP Union and HMCS Oriole.
Deck tours will be available from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at Port Charlottetown and Queen’s Wharf. On the same day, additional deck tours will be available from 4-7 p.m. at Port Charlottetown.
On Saturday, July 1, and Sunday,
July 2, deck tours will take place at both locations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Deck tours will also be available on HMCS Charlottetown, which recently returned from supporting Canada’s contribution to NATO assurance measures in the Mediterranean on Operation Reassurance. The public will also be able to view the Canada 150 signature project Canada C3, an icebreaker that will be anchored at Port Charlottetown during the festivities.
En route to Charlottetown, Canada C3 will explore three oceans and the longest coastline of any country in the world, while celebrating the vibrant indigenous and non-indigenous coastal communities and cultures across Canada. On board will be upwards of 300 participants representing a crosssection of Canadian society, including youth, elders, newcomers, scientists, educators, artists, musicians, political and business leaders, the media and other indigenous people.
The journey will be divided into 15 legs, each leg consisting of 20 to 25 participants who will be the voices and lens through which the rest of Canada and people around the world will experience the journey. Fifty community events are scheduled along the 150-day journey, including the Canada Day celebrations in Charlottetown.
