Athletics offence erupts

Stratford scores 37 runs in winning twice on Sunday

The Alley Stratford Athletics swept a Kings County Baseball League doublehead­er Sunday at MacNeill Field.

The A’s defeated the Cardigan Clippers 25-14 in a game called after five innings due to the mercy rule before beating the Peakes Bombers 12-4 in the second contest.

Adam Smith got the first victory in relief of starter Ronnie de la Cruz. Dean Carrol took the loss in relief of starter Charles Maclellan.

Shawn MacDougall was 5-for-5 with a grand slam and seven RBI to pace the Athletic attack. Dan O’Shea and Allister Smith each chipped in four hits in the victory.

Denver Morrison, Pierce Conaghan and Maclellan each had two hits for the Clippers.

O’Shea went six strong innings to pick up the victory in the second game with relief from Corey Dougay.

Bruce Jay suffered the loss with relief from Dillon Doucette.

Adam Smith and Marshall Ellis each had three hits to pace the Athletics while O’Shea chipped in a pair.

Colin Myers and Matt Bradley both were 1-for-3 for the Bombers.

Brewers 11, Expos 0

The Northside Gill Constructi­on Brewers defeated the East Royalty Expos 11-0 in a game called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Brewers scored five in the second and six more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Rookie Jayden MacLean pitched a complete game threehitte­r to earn the win while Brad Mullen suffered the loss with relief from three other Expos.

Mitch Ryan had two hits to lead the Brewers while Nigel Fisher was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Darcy Nicholson walked three times scored twice.

Tyler Johnston had a double for the Expos.

The Brewers play Wednesday in Cardigan at 6:30 p.m.
