Cassidy Durston aims to be between the pipes for the Holland College women’s soccer team in September.

The five-foot-five Lower Sackville, N.S., native is a member of the Suburban F.C. club team and is apart of the Nova Scotia’s training team for the Canada Games.

“Communication and leadership (are my strengths). I like to build a strong connection with my team and reassure them I will always have their backs,” said Durston. “I will bring a strong work ethic and a positive attitude to the ‘Canes. . . I am proud to be able to say I’ll be wearing the Hurricanes jersey this upcoming season.”

In 2012, Durston won a national silver medal with the Halifax County United where she played through 2014.

In 2015 her Halifax Dunbrack team went undefeated in the regular season.

Hurricanes women’s head coach Kris McKinnon said he is pleased to add Durston to the roster.

“We are very excited to add Cassidy to our team. We have traditionally been very strong at the keeper position and with the history of her representing Nova Scotia at club and all-star competitions her experience will help that tradition continue,” he said.

Durston is enrolled in open academic studies as she works towards the child and youth care worker program.

Holland College is the defending Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association champ. It also won titles in 2008, 2010 and 2013.

The Hurricanes open the season Saturday, Sept. 9, on the road versus the Dal-AC Rams in Bible Hill, N.S.

Holland College opens at home Saturday, Sept. 23, against the St. Thomas Tommies in Cornwall.
