McFeely, Carew to lead bid committee
Canada Games Council launched its process to host 2023 Games
Brian McFeely and Wayne Carew will co-chair the provincial bid committee for the 2023 Canada Games.
The Canada Games Council launched its official bid process, outlining what requirements Prince Edward
Island must meet in order to host the winter games.
McFeely and
Carew will lead a bid committee comprised of volunteer members, who will be responsible for submitting a conceptual plan for hosting the two-week event to the Canada Games Council by July 2018.
“We are excited to officially launch the bid process for the 2023 Canada Winter Games in P.E.I.,” said Tom
Quinn, Canada Games Council chairman.
“This province successfully hosted the Canada Games in the past and we look forward to watching this bid process unfold.”
Held once every two years and alternating between summer and winter, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for the next generation of national team athletes and future champions. Since the Games began in 1967, more than 100,000 young athletes have participated in the competition.
The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception with Prince Edward Island hosting the Canada Winter Games in 1991 and the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
