City of Charlottetown launches programs
The City of Charlottetown is launching a new lunchtime program called “Fun in the City’s Greenspace”, to take place in Rochford Square, every Wednesday in July and August from noon to 1 p.m.
Featuring a diverse range of free programming, it will provide an opportunity for people who live, work or visit Charlottetown to enjoy the city’s heritage square, while taking part in a fun, organized activity. The goal is to encourage use of the greenspaces, as well as promote healthy active lifestyles and social activity. Activities range from exercise classes, such as yoga and tai chi, to lawn games, such as washer toss and bocci ball.
“We encourage residents and visitors to enjoy and take advantage of the weather in the summer months, especially by visiting our beautiful, open greenspaces in Charlottetown,” said Mayor Clifford Lee. “The free programming we are offering is another way to reach and achieve the goals outlined in the new Integrated Community Sustainability Plan, but it’s also a way to demonstrate how our parks and greenspaces can be used.”
Picnic tables and blankets will be available for participants who would rather relax and eat their lunch. The Charlottetown Public Library will also be participating most Wednesdays, with books for all ages that the public can borrow directly from the park with their library card.
“By offering new activities each week, we hope to reach people of all different interests, demographics and mobility levels,” said Deputy Mayor Mike Duffy, chairman of the environment and sustainability committee. “We receive a lot of requests to provide additional, free programming and are thrilled to announce this excellent schedule.”
