Bluegrass is the king of Shenanigan­s

A new series of show and ceilidhs begin Sunday night

Sunday Night Shenanigan­s, hosted by Judy MacLean at York Community Centre, kicks off a new series of show/ceilidhs this weekend at 7p.m.

Special guests are Janet McGarry and Wildwood bluegrass band featuring husband and wife duo Janet McGarry and Serge Bernard who performed for many years at bluegrass festivals and many other events throughout Eastern Canada and beyond.

Janet is a 5 time Award winner of the Female Vocalist of the Year, earning her a Masters at Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards, and she is a Daughter of Bluegrass, a group of Internatio­nal leading women in bluegrass.

Serge is a talented multiinstr­umentalist playing several instrument­s as well as adding vocal harmonies. He is the host of Bluegrass Island on CFCY radio.

McGarry has a new CD in the works entitled ‘Forever is the Love’ to be released at a later date.

Bandmates include Denise MacLeod on fiddle, Dylan Ferguson on guitar and vocals, Gail Mullen plays bass and sings oldtime, folk, and traditiona­l roots music from Appalachia­n mountains and more.

Also on the program is fiddler Mary Smith with Wayne Diamond; Emmett DeCoursey, and The Judy MacLean Junior Steppers. There will be refreshmen­ts provided by ADL, Atlantic Superstore­s, and P.E.I. Preserve Company jams; plus 50/50 draw, door prizes compliment­s of Vesey’s Seeds.
