Man jumps off wharf while trying to flee police

-

Charlottetown Police Services was conducting routine patrols early Monday at 4:13 a.m. on Hillsborough Street when they saw a vehicle operating without headlights. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, eventually jumping out of the vehicle, diving into the water at the end of Great George Street and then swimming to a boat. Police arrested the man on the boat.

He went for breath tests that allegedly show he had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The man will be appearing in provincial court at a later date to face drunk driving charges.
