Kayaks, drone stolen from Paddle Shack

-

At least $5,000 worth of equipment was stolen after a break-in at a Summerside business early Saturday morning.

The Paddle Shack had recently reopened for the season adjacent to Shipyard Market on Water Street.

It gives lessons for and rents kayaks and paddle boards in addition to offering yoga classes.

James Manning, co-owner, said the theft occurred sometime between 2 and 3 a.m., Saturday. Someone broke a window to enter the building.

Among the items stolen were three red and white, single-seat Pelican kayaks and four paddles, a standup paddleboard and four paddles, four lifejackets, a Chroma blade camera drone and a GoPro Hero 3 camera.

The theft has been reported to Summerside Police Services, and anyone with information is asked to contact 902-432-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

There was reportedly a wedding reception taking place at the Shipyard Market around the time of the theft so Manning is hopeful someone saw something.

In the meantime, he said, he’s grateful for the support he’s received and the business will continue to operate.

“Everything can be replaced — it’s just a bit of a heavy hit to the finances.”

This is the Paddle Shack’s second season on the Summerside waterfront.
