Kings Playhouse summer season kicks off July 3

-

“Our Roots Are Showing”, a celebration of the stories, music and culture that define Island life, is set to take the stage at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown next week.

The summer season, which runs July 3 to Sept. 8 with shows six nights a week, kicks off with “The Four Tellers – Top Hats and Tall Tales” on Monday, July 3. The Tellers – David Weale, Gary Evans, Alan Buchanan and Dennis King – have played to sold-out houses for the past two years and they’re back with new stories and new music.

Tuesday nights feature the year-round Georgetown Ceilidh, a perfect way to try out some dance moves, enjoy local music and be welcomed into a true community experience (hugs are free).

Wednesday nights Treble With Girls hit the stage with a new show, “For the Love of the Island’. The show celebrates the traditional and original music that are integral to the Island’s culture.

Thursday nights heads outside the walls of the theatre and treats visitors to an animated walking tour, “Haunted Georgetown”, curated by King. Like most historic towns, Georgetown has a plethora of spooky stories that will evoke chills and perhaps some giggles along the way.

Friday nights Justin Simard’s new dinner theatre, “Uprooted & Unplugged”, highlights the many virtues of Island hospitality from the music to the food to the tall tales and laughter.

Sunday nights hearken back to the roots of the Kings Playhouse, bringing the Canadian classic “The Tomorrow Box” by Anne Chislett to the stage. The show played at the theatre in the late 1980s – telling the story of a retiring farmer and his wife who is determined to remain on the farm.

Directed by Keir Malone, the show stars Nils Ling, Alison Hart, Tim Wartman, Sherri-Lee Darrach and Kelly Caseley.
