Writer recognizes celebrity couples that have been ‘together forever’
Celebrity relationships are like dog years, one regular year equates to seven years of celebrity commitment, so it’s always a phenomenon when some couples stay together for the long haul.
Here are six:
1. David and Victoria Beckham – 18 years.
Guys. Guys. A spice girl and a professional athlete have been married for 18 years. They started dating way before we were contouring our faces or buying fidget spinners. David and Victoria have made it through low-rise jeans, aggressive blond highlights and raising four extremely beautiful children. I’ll cheer to that.
2. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson – 29 years.
Rita Wilson wasn’t just in the best movie of all time, “Now and Then”, she’s also been married to Tom Hanks for 29 years. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that that is the exact amount of years I’ve been alive and I’ll take it as a sign they want me to celebrate the big 3-0 with them. Wouldn’t that be fun? Tom and Rita’s 30th wedding anniversary and my 30th birthday, a joint celebration filled with their celebrity friends and my dog, perhaps?
3. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick – 20 years.
Jessica and Matthew have been married for 20 years and together for 26. Three kids later and they are more in love than ever. Of course, I don’t know that first hand, but I interpreted it through one paparazzi photo. To be honest, I’m still kind of holding out hope for Carrie and Aiden.
4. Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi – 9 years.
Ellen DeGeneres is all about that commitment. She and Portia have been together for 13 years, married for nine and she’s been working on the same television show for 14 years. With a track record like that, she’s probably been wearing the same pants suit all season. If I spent all day laughing in my mansion with my rescue dogs, I’d stick around too.
5. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith – 20 years.
The Fresh Prince found his princess and they’re clocking in at 20 years married and 23 years together. If you thought Kim and Kanye were narcissistic, listen to this, Will and Jada named their kids Willow and Jaden. They obviously love themselves (and each other) very much.
6. Rachel Zoe and Rodger Berman – 21 years.
If you have not watched The Zoe Project, then you probably have more friends and better taste than me, but you’ve also made a grave mistake. Poor Gretchen Wieners was just trying to make “fetch” happen and Rachel Zoe was coining phrases like, “I die”, “shut it down” and “bananas”. Seriously, Rachel was saying “bananas” before Gwen Stefani was spelling it out for us. When Rachel wasn’t styling celebrities or starring in her reality show, she was locking it down with long-time love Rodger.
Congratulations to all the happy Hollywood couples. I suddenly feel very silly for celebrating my four-year anniversary with my boyfriend last month. Let’s be real, even surviving one day with me is an achievement worth celebrating though.
