Bike rave a go

Art in the Open, Upstreet Craft Brewing plan glow party fundraiser

-

A bike rave and dance party is set to glow in Charlottetown.

Participants are invited to gather at 8:30 p.m. on July 8 in Victoria Park to decorate and outfit their bikes with a variety of different glow products. Glow products ranging from bracelets and necklaces will be available for a small donation.

Art in the Open and Upstreet Craft Brewing are hosting the family friendly event in support of the annual Art in the Open festival, which takes place later this summer in Charlottetown.

Once the sun sets and participants have transformed their bikes, Mikey Wasnidge, special events and marketing manager from Upstreet Craft Brewing, will turn up the music on the mobile speakers and gather the cyclists to lead them on a parade.

The route will travel up Kent Street, to Rochford Square and then over to Connaught Square. Paraders will stop at each park for an impromptu dance party before returning to the route.

Cyclists will then travel down Water Street, up Queen Street and finish on Victoria Row on Richmond Street.

From there, the bike parade will eventually make its way over to Upstreet Craft Brewing.

“The bike route was chosen as it hits most of the spots that will be active during Art in the Open,” said festival co-curator Becka Viau.

“Our festival is all about enhancing and celebrating the use of public space. A glowing bike party is a great way to celebrate these spaces.”

Following the bike parade, participants and the general public aged 19 and older are invited to Upstreet for a dance party.

Participation in the parade is free and helmets are mandatory.
