N.S. food bank requests help

-

NORTH SYDNEY, N.S. — The North Sydney Food Bank has enlisted the help of Feed Nova Scotia to distribute more than $100,000 worth of products from Kraft Heinz across the province.

As part of the Kraft Heinz Project Play program that recently saw Munro Park in North Sydney receive $150,000 in improvements for a soccer field, Kraft Heinz also offered the North Sydney Food Bank more than 8,000 cases of different products ranging from over 250 cases of miracle whip to 2,500 cases of Kraft cheese. Although the food bank was overwhelmed with gratitude, the co-chair of the North Sydney Food Bank, Lawrence Shebib, said there was simply too much product for them to handle alone.

There are 16 food banks on Cape Breton Island, but Shebib said the donation from Kraft Heinz was still too much food.

The problem was that products like cheese had to be refrigerated and Cape Breton food banks don’t have the space. Shebib said that’s when he thought Feed Nova Scotia would be equipped to handle the massive amount of product donated by Kraft Heinz.
