P.E.I.-Mudcats play key doublehead­er

It’s a battle for first Saturday when the P.E.I. Junior Islanders welcome the Metro Mudcats for a New Brunswick Junior Baseball League doublehead­er in Charlottet­own.

Game 1 starts at noon at Memorial Field.

P.E.I. is 13-3 while Metro is 11-2. The teams have dominated the circuit this season with the closest team, the Fredericto­n Royals, at 7-9.

Riley Gallant leads the league in hitting with a .538 average and RBIs with 20. But Metro’s Jeremie Arsenauu isn’t far behind with a .421 average and 14 RBIs. Spencer Horne tops the P.E.I. staff with a 1.40 earned run average while Brett Hicken leads in wins with four. Mudcats hurler Ryan Bartley tops the league with five wins and is second overall in ERA (1.68). On Sunday, P.E.I. hosts the Saint John Alpines (5-10) for a double-dip in Summerside. Game 1 goes at noon.
