A downtown Summerside restaurant is looking to shake things up a bit by offering something new to customers looking for a bit of nightlife in the community.

Husband and wife team Jordon and Darcia Burnett have owned and operated The P.E.I. Lobster House on Water Street for six years. Jordon is the chef and Darcia manages the business’ busy schedule of events and weddings.

A recent trip to warmer climates and years of listening to the grumbling of customers and friends on the perceived lack of a strong local nightlife in Summerside, gave them an idea.

They’re hoping to capitalize on that potential market with one of their establishment’s strong points, its large outdoor seating area next to the water.

“(The nightlife) mostly happens inside … we want to bring it out under the stars where people can enjoy it in a place that’s fun and safe,” said Darcia.

For the next couple of months, at least, The Lobster House will be offering a club night to customers every Thursday evening, with a different theme and matching snack menu each week. The restaurant will remain family friendly until 9:30

p.m. at which time it will switch to a DJ and become 19+ until closing at midnight. There will be no cover charged to get in.

“Every beach you’re on in the Caribbean there is something going on. There’s barbeques going, music playing and

people having a good time,” said Jordon. “We can bring that to Summerside. We have a waterfront we can celebrate – so why not?”
