The funeral for Alyre Gallant, beloved husband of Debbie Gallant, of Rustico, was held on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church, Rustico. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Arulraj Santiago, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by family. The first reading, from Ecclesiast­es, was addressed by friend, Barry Doiron. The second reading, from Romans, was addressed by friend, Lori Doiron-Fitzpatric­k. Prayers of the Faithful were read by friend, Karen Trainor. The Poem, “Our Papa Kept A Garden” was read by granddaugh­ters, Shyla Gallant and Kristen Lidstone. The altar servers were James Donnelly, Peter Gallant, and Marion Murphy. Linda Gallant, Marie Doiron, and Marion Murphy assisted Father Santiago as Eucharisti­c ministers. The music was provided by the church choir with Phyllis Arsenault as choir director, and Shane Arsenault as organist. The hymns were Entrance, “On Eagles Wings”; Psalm, “Peace”; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Alleluia”, with Phyllis Arsenault as cantor; offertory, “The Summons”; communion, “You Are My Saviour” sung by Phyllis Arsenault; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary pallbearer­s were everyone present. Pallbearer­s were Tony Gauthier, Reggie Gallant, Glenn Doiron, Klaas Nieuwhof, Sandy Doiron and Brendan Mullen. Flower bearers were Shyla Gallant, Kristen Lidstone, Miranda Lidstone, Sally Gauthier, Cathy Gauthier, Barbie Kelly and Shawla Gallant. Among those in attendance were representa­tives from the Cymbria Lionetts Club. Interment took place following the service in the Church Cemetery where Father Raj conducted the committal service.
