MacNeill, Mick Dundee out­fox top pac­ers

The rookie beat the vet­er­ans in Satur­day’s fea­ture at Red Shores at the Char­lot­te­town Driv­ing Park.

Mick Dundee ral­lied from off the pace to cap­ture the $1,900 race in 1:57.1 for owner-train­er­driver Don MacNeill of Char­lot­te­town.

The three-year-old son of Aahm Cana­dian Now has ac­cu­mu­lated a three-race win streak as he likely heads into At­lantic Sires Stakes ac­tion Satur­day at Red Shores at the Sum­mer­side Race­way as part of Gover­nor’s Plate week rac­ing.

Mach Of Bal­ly­keel was sec­ond Satur­day for Marc Camp­bell while Clic K (Gilles Bar­rieau) was third.

Elm Grove Ka­boom cap­tured the $1,600 back-up pace in 1:55.4 for trainer-driver Earl Smith and own­ers Larry and Kathy Chap­pell of Marsh­field.

Bar­rieau had two wins on the pro­gram with Four Cor­ners in 1:58 for trainer Jackie Mathe­son of Strat­ford and aboard his own two-year-old pac­ing colt, Mon­tys Play in a maiden-break­ing score of 1:58.4 for the son of Shadow Play.

Mighty Cow­boy scored the fastest win on the pro­gram, win­ning his $1,400 class in 1:55.2 for trainer-driver Dar­ren Crowe and owner David MacDon­ald of Hal­i­fax.

Race 8 on the card saw an ac­ci­dent past the half-mile marker as Jd­cyril and driver Adam Merner made a break and fell to the track while all other horses avoided the in­ci­dent.

Both the horse and driver im­me­di­ately re­turned to their feet with no in­juries to Merner or the horse.

Live rac­ing in Char­lot­te­town re­turns Thurs­day, July 20, as Gover­nor’s Plate rac­ing is in full swing in Sum­mer­side with pro­grams ev­ery evening this week, ex­cept Mon­day, cul­mi­nat­ing in the 49th run­ning of the Gover­nor’s Plate, pre­sented by Sum­mer­side Chrysler Dodge, on Satur­day, July 15.
