MacNeill, Mick Dundee outfox top pacers

The rookie beat the veterans in Saturday’s feature at Red Shores at the Charlottet­own Driving Park.

Mick Dundee rallied from off the pace to capture the $1,900 race in 1:57.1 for owner-trainerdri­ver Don MacNeill of Charlottet­own.

The three-year-old son of Aahm Canadian Now has accumulate­d a three-race win streak as he likely heads into Atlantic Sires Stakes action Saturday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate week racing.

Mach Of Ballykeel was second Saturday for Marc Campbell while Clic K (Gilles Barrieau) was third.

Elm Grove Kaboom captured the $1,600 back-up pace in 1:55.4 for trainer-driver Earl Smith and owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield.

Barrieau had two wins on the program with Four Corners in 1:58 for trainer Jackie Matheson of Stratford and aboard his own two-year-old pacing colt, Montys Play in a maiden-breaking score of 1:58.4 for the son of Shadow Play.

Mighty Cowboy scored the fastest win on the program, winning his $1,400 class in 1:55.2 for trainer-driver Darren Crowe and owner David MacDonald of Halifax.

Race 8 on the card saw an accident past the half-mile marker as Jdcyril and driver Adam Merner made a break and fell to the track while all other horses avoided the incident.

Both the horse and driver immediatel­y returned to their feet with no injuries to Merner or the horse.

Live racing in Charlottet­own returns Thursday, July 20, as Governor’s Plate racing is in full swing in Summerside with programs every evening this week, except Monday, culminatin­g in the 49th running of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, on Saturday, July 15.
