‘Search­ing for Abeg­weit’ to open in Sum­mer­side on July 11

The pop­u­lar stage show, “Search­ing for Abeg­weit: Is­land Songs and Sto­ries of Len­nie Gal­lant” is in fi­nal prepa­ra­tions for open­ing night on July 11 of its limited run of eight per­for­mances at Sum­mer­side’s Har­bourfront The­atre this sum­mer.

One of P.E.I.’s most renowned mu­si­cal sons, Gal­lant’s ca­reer has spawned a string of ECMA and Juno nom­i­na­tions and awards, as well as the il­lus­tri­ous Or­der of Canada for his con­tri­bu­tion to Cana­dian Cul­ture. Most re­cently, he gar­nered 2017 ECMA wins for Folk Record­ing of the Year and Fans Choice En­ter­tainer of the Year.

Hailed as a run­away the­atri­cal hit with a solid track record of 120 full house per­for­mances, “Search­ing for Abeg­weit” is a mu­si­cal love let­ter to Prince Ed­ward Is­land that stars the artist him­self and presents his folk, roots and rock mu­sic, along­side comedic sto­ries, Is­land leg­ends, and poignant tales in a mul­ti­me­dia for­mat that uti­lizes film, and hun­dreds of paint­ings from well-known P.E.I. vis­ual artist and sib­ling, Karen Gal­lant. Shar­ing the stage with Gal­lant are neph­ews Jonathan Gal­lant on vo­cals and per­cus­sion and Jeremy on pi­ano, fid­dler Sean Kemp, and pop­u­lar Aca­dian singer and multi-in­stru­men­tal­ist Pa­tri­cia Richard.

Fol­low­ing the open­ing per­for­mance, “Search­ing for Abeg­weit” will play on July 12, 25, 26, Aug. 8, 9, 22 and 23.
