Cel­e­brate an­nual Parks Day

P.E.I. Na­tional Park host­ing num­ber of ac­tiv­i­ties on Satur­day

There will be some yoga on the beach, a sand­cas­tle com­pe­ti­tion and a whole lot more on Parks Day on Satur­day at the P.E.I. Na­tional Park.

Parks Canada, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Ac­cess Ad­vi­sory P.E.I. and the Spinal Cord In­jury As­so­ci­a­tion of P.E.I., will also be launch­ing the new ac­ces­si­bil­ity mats at Stanhope Beach.

These mats al­low reg­u­lar wheel­chairs, walk­ers and other mo­bil­ity de­vices to travel from the wooden board­walk onto the sand and right down to the wa­ter’s edge.

As part of the launch, there will be yoga on the beach, in­cor­po­rat­ing chair yoga, at 9:30 a.m. at Stanhope Beach.

The theme of the sand­cas­tle com­pe­ti­tion is Canada 150. Cre­ativ­ity counts, and the panel of judges is look­ing for­ward to see­ing sand cre­ations of all shapes and sizes in fam­ily-friendly event.

Reg­is­tra­tion for the sand­cas­tle com­pe­ti­tion be­gins at 11:30 a.m., and judg­ing will take place at 2 p.m. Win­ners will be an­nounced at 3 p.m.

Those in­ter­ested in tak­ing part can regis­ter as a group, in­di­vid­ual or fam­ily.

Prizes will be awarded best en­tries.

Mau­rice Bernard, a lo­cal artist, this fun, for sand sculp­tor and host of P.E.I. Na­tional Park’a sum­mer pro­gram “Sen­sa­tional Sand­cas­tles’’, will be on hand to of­fer tips.
