SYDNEY, N.S. — Chief Morley Googoo has been charged with assault after an altercation at a hotel in Sydney last month.
Googoo, who represents Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to the Assembly of First Nations, was charged late Friday with assault and disturbing the peace at the Hampton Inn in Sydney on June 17.
He was released from police custody on a promise to appear in court July 31.
His release conditions include abstaining from alcohol, staying away from the hotel and the adjoining Membertou Convention Centre, remaining in Nova Scotia, and not contacting the individual he is alleged to have assaulted.
