The funeral for Bertha Kelly, beloved wife of the late Justin Kelly, formerly of Kelly’s Cross, was held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kelly’s Cross. The presider for the mass of Christian burial was Reverend Doug MacDonald, who also proclaimed the Gospel and delivered the homily. The pall was placed on the casket by her daughters, Marlene Clark, Karen Myers, Connie MacLean and Joanne, Mayhew. The first reading, from Isaiah, was addressed by nephew, Larry Stordy. The second reading, from II Timothy, was addressed by granddaugh­ter, Laurie Lee Kelly Orlik. The prayers of the faithful were led by family friend and neighbour, Phyllis Smith. The cross bearer was Elaine Molyneaux. The altar servers were Ian Nantes and Gary Hughes. The bulletins were passed out by brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Ev Kelly. Colette Stordy assisted Father MacDonald as a eucharisti­c minister. The music was provided by the church choir with Dina Blot as song leader. The hymns were: Entrance, “Come Back To Me”; Psalm, “The Lord Is My Shepherd”; Gospel Acclamatio­n, “Give Glory and Praise”, with Dina Blot as Cantor; offertory, “Come to the Water”, sung by Dina Blot; communion, “In the Garden”; meditation, “Hail Mary, Gentle Women”; commendati­on, “Songs of the Angels”; and recessiona­l, “Amazing Grace”. Honorary Pallbearer­s was everyone present. Pallbearer­s were daughter, Joanne Mayhew; and sons, Bob Kelly, Les Kelly, Cecil Kelly, Jim Kelly and Steve Kelly. Flower bearers were daughters-in-law, Laura Kelly, Mary Kelly and Bernadette Kelly; and sons-in-law, Mike Clark, Ronnie Myers and Tom MacLean. Interment took place in St. Joseph’s cemetery where Father MacDonald conducted the committal service. Arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Central Queen`s Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
