“Bluefin”, a NFB documentary directed by P.E.I.’s John Hopkins, is receiving international attention.

The 53-minute feature length film won the Lunenburg Doc Fest’s Best Atlantic Filmmaker award, enjoyed a U.S. premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and a screening at the Available Light Festival in Whitehorse and won the Wildlife Award the International Ocean Film Festival in San Francisco.

“Bluefin” was shown as the opening night film at the Sea and See Festival in Busan, South Korea.

In between festival jaunts, Hopkins received an offer from U.S. distributor Gravitas Ventures through speed meetings at Hot Docs Distribution Rendezvous in Toronto this past spring. In a call to Hopkins this week, the distributor confirmed that the film has “broad appeal and expects strong, international sales.”
