Light­house open house Satur­day

The Point Prim Light­house So­ci­ety is host­ing an open house Satur­day to cel­e­brate its ac­qui­si­tion of the light­house and to show­case re­cent im­prove­ments such as the re­in­forced sea­wall, the ex­panded park­ing lot and the newly con­structed keeper’s cot­tage.

The new keeper’s cot­tage houses a gift shop, his­tor­i­cal in­ter­pre­ta­tion cen­tre, and ac­ces­si­ble wash­rooms. It also fea­tures an at­tached band shell for host­ing en­ter­tain­ment and wed­dings.

Free tours of the light­house will be pro­vided from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. A free bar­be­cue runs from 1-3 p.m. Mu­si­cians Gor­don Belsher and Richard Wood will per­form at 1 p.m. Guest speak­ers at 2 p.m. in­clude Lt.-Gov. Frank Lewis and Lawrence MacAu­lay, min­is­ter of Agri­cul­ture and Agri-food Canada. Free straw­ber­ries and ice cream will be served from 1-4 p.m.

The pub­lic is asked to bring lawn chairs.
