Lighthouse open house Saturday
The Point Prim Lighthouse Society is hosting an open house Saturday to celebrate its acquisition of the lighthouse and to showcase recent improvements such as the reinforced seawall, the expanded parking lot and the newly constructed keeper’s cottage.
The new keeper’s cottage houses a gift shop, historical interpretation centre, and accessible washrooms. It also features an attached band shell for hosting entertainment and weddings.
Free tours of the lighthouse will be provided from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. A free barbecue runs from 1-3 p.m. Musicians Gordon Belsher and Richard Wood will perform at 1 p.m. Guest speakers at 2 p.m. include Lt.-Gov. Frank Lewis and Lawrence MacAulay, minister of Agriculture and Agri-food Canada. Free strawberries and ice cream will be served from 1-4 p.m.
The public is asked to bring lawn chairs.
