MacLean throws one-hitter

Clippers, Bombers, Chevies win by mercy rule in KCBL action

Brodie Hughes broke up Jayden MacLean’s no-hit bid with an infield single to leadoff the seventh inning Wednesday at Memorial Field.

MacLean struck out eight in the complete-game one-hitter as the Northside Gill Constructi­on Brewers cruised to a 6-1 win over the Charlottet­own Jays in Kings County Baseball League (KCBL) action.

Spencer Smith had a solo home run while Will Jadis and Mitch Ryan both went 2-for-3 to lead the Brewers offence.

Chad MacKay suffered the complete-game loss for the Jays.

The Brewers play the Expos Sunday at 6 p.m. at Memorial Field.

Clippers 12, Selects 0

The Cardigan Clippers pounded out 13 hits in support of Kevin Macleod, who only allowed two hits, in a 12-0 victory over the Canada Games Selects.

The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Denver Morrison was 2-for-3 for the Clippers while Derian Johnson and Jed Walsh were each 1-for-1. Quinn Hughes was 1-for-2 for the Clippers.

Noah Duckworth suffered the loss for the Selects while Garret Hebert and Nathan Purchase recorded their hits.

Bombers 12, Expos 1 Dillon Doucette set the tone with a two-run homer in the first inning as the Peakes Tee Bombers blasted the Charlottet­own Expos 12-1.

Doucette added a three-run shot in the third inning in a game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Tyson McInnis limited the Expos to two hits in his KCBL debut on the mound. He struck out three to earn the win.

Doucette ended the night 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI while Mitchell Power went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Connor Myers was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Owen Wilson and Mike Spencer

each went 1-for-2 for the Expos.

Chevies 12, Athletics 2

The Morell Chevies struck for three runs in the opening inning and didn’t look back, handing The Alley Stratford Athletics a 12-2 loss in Stratford.

Troy Coffin picked up the win, holding the A’s to four hits in five innings, while Corey Dougay suffered the loss, with relief from Jonny Arsenault.

Desi Doyle went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored to pace Morell’s offence. Avery Arsenault and Stephen O’Shea each contribute­d three hits

while Scott Harper, Taylor Larkin and Logan Gallant each added a pair of hits.

Dominique Ryan stroked a pair of triples for Stratford while Randy Taylor and Dan O’Shea each added a hit.

The win improved the Chevies record to 8-3, while Stratford dropped to 10-3.
