Recital fea­tures mezzo-so­prano

Alexan­dra Smith, mez­zoso­prano, will be fea­tured at the Sum­mer Recitals in Char­lot­te­town on Fri­day.

The recital be­gins at 7:30 p.m. at the Kirk of St. James on Fitzroy Street.

Smith will be ac­com­pa­nied by Frances McBurnie on pi­ano and Marc DesRoches on oboe.

The pro­gram in­cludes mu­sic by Han­del, Schu­mann, Montsal­vatge, Her­mann, Mar­cello and others.

Smith is en­ter­ing her fi­nal year of the bach­e­lor of mu­sic pro­gram at UPEI, study­ing voice with pro­fes­sor Sung Ha Shin-Bouey. She also plays per­cus­sion in the UPEI Wind En­sem­ble and is on the ex­ec­u­tive of the Mu­sic Stu­dents So­ci­ety.

DesRoches is en­ter­ing his fourth year and stud­ies oboe with Karem Si­mon and pro­fes­sor Belinda Code. He plays with the UPEI Wind Sym­phony and the P.E.I. Sym­phony.

McBurnie is known for col­lab­o­ra­tive pi­ano work and is the di­rec­tor of mu­sic at the Kirk of St. James.

Do­na­tions will grate­fully be ac­cepted to­ward Kirk’s choral schol­ar­ships. A re­cep­tion will fol­low.
